A Toast to Bravery

A Toast to Bravery

A Poem by Solidad

Cheers,
Here's to happiness and self-preservation.
I'm learning how to compartmentalize feelings.
Which is no feat for the faint of heart.
Digging through old memories and cobwebbed dreams
long thrown to the side collecting dust.
In this venture there has been a common denominator
false loves.
I'm sure that goes for all of us.
Friendships,
Romances,
Mothers,
Fathers
And the occasional death.
All of which litter the floor of my mind
like cigarette butts.
As with all things this will take time.
I will get angry
yet smile in my rage
at all of the bullets I've dodged
and the ones that only grazed the skin.
I will forgive but never forget.
Run but never hide.
Kiss but never tell.
leave before I am left.
Never once denying
how bulletproof I really am.
