Coming Up Short

Coming Up Short

A Poem by Solidad

Pixilated memories,

a few black and white photographs.

The letter S rings a bell and we try to understand,

the reason why the sink still drips even after you turn it off.

Hearing the alarm clock going off,

When it really isn’t

Can’t color inside the li[n]e because it’s difficult,

So you get frustrated and quit.

Trying to find the difference

between red and pink,

coming up short with gray.

Interesting.

Meaning you and saying she

The chips fall and you’ve lost again.

I do

I don’t

I forever

I won’t

Learn to understand why,

my odds are better than yours.

Because when I turn the lights out

The whole world stops and it begins to rain.

The spirit of defeat is overwhelming in this poem.
You painted a vibrant portrait of a temporal world.
Everything here was constantly changing and that
made it take on a life of its own.
