A Child of Both Waters

A Child of Both Waters

A Poem by Solidad
"

Not all will get this. This is for those that will.

"

You were scorned

begging your Orishas.

You asked them,

If I couldn't love you

then I could not love

another.

They obliged by allowing me to love

only one more

binding us with a red thread.

No matter how I loved.

Oshun cupped her magnanimous hands

around my heart,

as Oshosi pierced it

with biased justice.

Kissing both eyelids

Yemaya inhaled my sorrow

with the lungs

of a sorrow stricken mother;

holding the soul

of a misguided child.

Who loved

with both eyes closed.
