One Step Away

One Step Away

A Poem by Kitty

I was one step from Redemption,

So I took two steps backwards,

Away from the door.

I began to free-fall.

I felt weightless,

Hallow,

Almost dead.

I seemed to float,

Just hanging in the air.

I opened my eyes

And suddenly things

Began speeding passed –

I was no longer hovering.

Images of my life

Flashed by as I continued to plummet;

Images of family;

Images of pain.

But the image that stood out the most

Was the image of you;

The image of us.

I was hanging again,

Just staring at the images of you and I.

In one image you were holding me;

In another you held my hand;

In some you were kissing me;

And in others our bodies

Were intertwined,

Wrapped up in passion.

I longed to have those moments back;

Longed to be with you.

But I knew that if I had stepped

Through the door of Redemption,

That I would never have seen you again.

And living meant spending life without you,

Then I didn’t want to live!!!!

"I was one step from Redemption,
So I took two steps backwards," This is just cool!

"Through the door of Redemption,
That I would never have seen you again." Very powerful.

This was a very powerful piece, dark.
Am I reading this correctly... Giving up a destructive life style would mean giving up the one you love? Forgive me, I'm not much of a poet. but i know that i liked this.
