Minotaur of Conscience

Minotaur of Conscience

A Poem by JoshuaStribbell
"

The monster in the labyrinth

"
I was struck by fear, the monster's sword
Whose shield is regret
Whose eyes, those fiery red eyes
Were the only thing visible watching me lie
A wounded warrior, suffering in his sin

I remember a hand I clasped
After many lonesome nights blind in the dark
I remember a promise fit for repentance,
Of grace and salvation in a kingdom of light
I remember the knees I was forced to bow on
And I remember the chains as they gripped my wrists and ankles

What peace in solitude now?
What tranquility to quell the ferocity of my heart?
What bandages to stop the bleeding of my soul?

My eyes run wild
My sighs speak for me
My dreams speak to me
But my ears hear thunder, only thunder
No lightning in these dark times, no sun
Only holes. Black, hollow holes

Boom! Where are your chains?
Boom! Bare your yoke behind me
Boom! Consider the rain
Boom! Our pact is binding
