A Dinner Party

A Dinner Party

A Poem by Joshua Rawlins
"

Just that...

"
There she is:
Preserved as a pickle.
A photograph

Black and white,
Brilliantly bright.
A laugh.

She scoops up soup
From her black kettle pot
And sips.

Picture, perfect,
Smile - for the camera...
Snap.

Clap of hands
On skin.
Smiles, laughter, gin.

Stopped clock ticks
A shadow in
The flash,

Savouring the snack.
A smack of lips,
Crack of bones.

Slowly, slowly,
Plump of cheek -
Beat of heart -

Juice of thigh -
Part by part
By part.
