What I must do

What I must do

A Poem by Nwaeze Joshua
"

"A mother's love to her daughter"

"

Into the night I stare

Constantly woken by cries, whispers of comforting words

to the silence of the night

Tears of anguish shred of pains

I must, these realities face before the sun begins to shine.

Wadding through muddy waters, I have to fight with the strength I’ve got.

I have to make this right, the smile I lacked - she must have,

The joy denied me, she must have,

The white man’s accolade, I’ll never have she must.

I have been walking with my face turned to the sun.

Weights on my shoulders, I dare not falter.

Bullets in my gun, eyes on the back of my head, set for a race.

I do what I can, when I can while I can for her, until the clouds rolls back

and the stars fills the night,

so am I chose to stand.

I hear freedom calling, it whispers beckoning to come.
