RememberA Poem by Nwaeze JoshuaThis poem is about the effects of war on children, how it bleaks their future, and aspirations away."REMEMBER" Remember Do
u remember? As
kids We
would play into the sunset Let
our feelings into the dusk, Exhaust
our feeble feet Till
the dawn of morning But
it turns out The
world had other plans. Our
pursuit were pure Our
hearts devoid of sin, We
dreamt of a dogged future One
brighter than the skies One
lit by a passing comet One
not determined by status One
devoid of men's outrage, Blemish
or spot and wrinkle... (yea) But
we were helpless Introduced
to a world, So
real yet seemingly virtual Its
glamorous splendour A
sight to behold But
all In
the ashes of ruins Our
imaginations belittled, What
seemed so perfect Yet
crude The
invigorating realities Seen
from a seamless periscope Explosions
of men's vices An
ocean of shrapnel. Daughters,
separated from mothers Sons,
bundled off to a world unknown Fathers,
seemingly unperturbed But
deep down Frozen
with fear The
carnage not over Death
beckoning, Disaster
looming like The
next door neighbour With
pride in its eyes But Like
the symphony, Minds
glittering with hope We
wait Yes We
know From
dust we are There
we would return
But, Is
it too much to ask? To
live a life Like
that of our childhood To
live and to live for ourselves To
reach that Which
our soul yearns for From
within And
our spirits affirm But
we would look up To
the hills For
there Our
salvation lies Her
warmth We
would one day embrace Her
touch We
would one day feel again Do
you remember? Do
you remember mother earth? Yes
do you remember? © 2020 Nwaeze JoshuaReviews
