Chasing CloudsA Poem by J.J. MatthewsA little poem about dreams versus reality and where some of us may draw the line between.
On my way back home,
I was at the front of the bus. The clouds were floating above, And the shadow they cast was ahead of us. As the bus was driving ahead, I saw the shadow slowly move away from us, As if we were trying our best to keep up with the clouds, And stay in touch with the cool cover it would provide. And then we traded the shade for the sun. What if the shade is the dream? What if when we are under the cloud cover from the sun, It is the metaphorical goal we want. To be a swimmer, to be an artist, To be the greatest, to be the smartest. Those who reach to teach, Those who aim for fame. Everyone has their aspirations that they want to see fulfilled, And some who just wish to make what they can, Out of the little with which they began. Like chasing the shadow line from the sky, We chase after our dreams and never look back. Endlessly running until the cloud is away, And the shadow is lifted so we see the day. But the daylight breaking out over us makes us think maybe. Just maybe, it didn't happen at all. Some of us think that once the line has left us that we have failed, Chasing clouds. But we all need to remember. It's only when our dreams look so far away from us, That they will always be closest to us. Its the sun. When we look up to see the bright, sunlit, blue sky. This is when we are there. Always keep running for your goals and dreams. Because they will never leave you. © 2015 J.J. Matthews |
