Alone

Alone

A Poem by Josh Heighton
"

Were not as alone as it may seem

"
Alone in a room he sits, for what seems like hours. The bench is cold, stiff, and alone. Snow flakes fall ever softly, like graceful angles falling from the heavens. The air is still and brisk. It is as if you could hear the forest speak. The trail lies empty and dead. Perfect for him to delve into thought and desire. His mind fills up with empty thoughts; Thoughts of past, thoughts of present, and thoughts of the future to come. Within those thoughts lies the reason he sits alone on the winter bench. Starting to remember all the pain, sadness, and suffering he has witnessed in his life, a noise sparks his attention else where. A white shadowy figure appears in the distance. Finally, as the figure grows closer, he realizes the shadow is a friend. As they both great each other and remissness, he realizes the friend is wearing an army uniform. As quick as the friend came there gone back into the raging snow storm. He grips the bottle tighter as he begins to takes a swig. Time seems to last forever in the winter twilight. Tears begin to freeze on his face as the past pain resurfaces.
Suddenly, a voice breaks the slumber. He is suddenly transported back to his chair in his room. In this room there is complete silence. The clock became load as if its volume was turned up. "Why are you crying Grampa?" The tears fade instantly, as he realizes he is not alone. His entire family is around him. Embracing his fallen comrade, he picks up his grand daughter. "It's nothing," he replies. Staring down at the wonder eyes gazing back up at him, his heart fills with happiness. Suddenly, the little girl opens her mouth. "Can you tell me how you saved the world grampa?" With a big sigh he explains the story of the the battles won and lost. He explains the tears and laughs. He expalins the story of the winter solider. After, the story the Grand Daughter gives him a big huge. "Thank you Grampa, and Don't worry your not alone, you got me." His hearts melts to the floor and he finally realizes what he really fought for to protect. Why he endured all the pain and tears. Why his best friend gave up his life.  Finally he could really, truthfully, and clearly, see that he was not alone anymore.

A pretty sad tale.
Not sure if to consider this a poem or a short story,
Either way it is touching.

You use the word 'Suddenly' 3 times. Now that's not really a problem, but you use it three times in close succession. You might want to change that.

Other then that, thank you for the poem.
