You Only Live Forever

You Only Live Forever

A Poem by Josh Anderson

All the cameras watch as you take your final breath
They only care when the screen goes black
Does the television screen make you feel alive in death
Or is that tear for the moments you can't have back

You only live forever in the scars you make
At least that's what they preach
A heart of stone no longer has the capacity to break
Is the message that they teach

Do you feel peace now as the poison fills your veins
Another lost soul seeking solace in a syringe
Have you screamed your hearts out till nothing but the shell remained
Another sheep lost from the flock seeking comfort in emptiness

You only live forever in the questions you ask
When you are young you live as kings
But what happens if your kingdom is made up of emptiness and ash
Then we are the rulers of nothing
