Where’s the girl?

Where’s the girl?

A Poem by Joe Palmer

Where’s the girl?

Where is the girl who I love so dearly?

The one with whom I’ve danced, sang, laughed and cried,

Who would hold my hand and be by my side.

Surely she’s there, She’s still there clearly.

Where is the girl who would bring me Chinese?

The girl who I fell for, changed for and would die for,

Who has slept on my bed, together, cuddled on the floor,

She’s still there, maybe just down on her knees.

For what she cannot see is how love changes,

Like a pack of cards it shuffles, rearranges.

It does not grow stale. Suffer, weaken, or eventually fail.

It merely changes.  It goes through stages.

And my darling, it seems you’re looking for an excuse to jump overboard,

But this ships not sinking, it’s just changing course,

So like Rose from Titanic, please step down from the rails.

Come back to bed, and if all else fails,

We can go back to sleep.

This title stuck out to me for some reason after reviewing your other poem. I just had to read it and I am glad I did. It almost reminds me of myself. I can picture and even hear a particular someone saying some of the exact same things that you wrote above, almost...
When I read it to myself, while being introspective at the same time, it makes me kind of sad... Things are always different from every individual point of view but it isn't always positive for everyone involved. It makes me want to sit back and think a lot more about what I have just read.
The ending was beautiful. Simple, perfect, and comforting...
"Come back to bed, and if all else fails,
we can go back to sleep."
I think that was just the right touch to this poem. I went from feeling a bit sad, empathetic, and almost got lost in thought/memories. The last line, though, pulled my head back above the water and let me breath comfortably again.
The simple things in life are some of the most enjoyable. After a while, some of those things aren't even acknowledged as 'simple' anymore. Those 'simple' things can wind up meaning so much to you and without those things it can feel as if there is a void that can't be filled. Then all you want anymore are those 'simple' things, like laying in bed together to sleep, and it's terribly painful when they're gone.

I think this poem is really good. Sometimes it is hard to deal with change even if its for the better. You really did a great job

Very lovely words to save a fading love. Good luck if real and good job if just words. Nice flow and content. Thanks

I really like this piece. I love how you explain love, people, and relationships change and that's scary but necessary. Great write!

This is so beautiful
Your unconditional love and care for her
that is the course you both take for life
you do not judge her
you hold her

that is stunning

Simply loved this. It's so hard to admit when things have changed and even harder to admit thy may have changed for the better. Sometimes it feels like we care more about preserving the moment than preserving the feelings because we know they are so fleeting.

Gorgeous piece. Very much a living, breathing testament to love, a poem that tells of the human story.
