Red skies

Red skies

A Poem by Joe Palmer
"

A poem penned for Courtney.

"

Search for the unobtainable, it's the only thing we seek

A chronic pain, forever the same

That plagues us week by week

The hunt for something more, that stains the sorry days

It hurts to think, we reach the brink

Till the pain subsides away

Our pursuit of happiness, can take us many places

The blue skies and euphoric highs

That seem to come and go in stages

The endless quest for fulfillment, that haunts our troubled lives

Finding salvation in synthetic stimulation

So the better times are emphasized

An insatiable yearn for more, that we try so hard to meet

We mask our woes till the pain all but goes

A slight solace to keep us on our feet

Perhaps the purest form of pleasure, is closer than perceived?

Simple creations for natural elation

That surely we dare not to believe?

This craving for contentment, quelled with achievable desires?

A nostalgic musk, red skies at dusk

That may ignite your inner fires

Let's manipulate our minds, deconstruct all false pretenses

A familiar face or warm embrace

Appreciate all that stimulates your senses

I'm not suggesting a simple path, or an overriding cure

But joy's to be found, in the beauty that surrounds

Better times lay ahead for sure

VERY well written. I found it absolutely beautiful.
I'm a huge fan of quotes, obsessed actually. This poem is filled with great ones. It seems a shame to dissect such a lovely piece, but I could take little parts of this at a time and it means just as much and holds just as strong.

The whole poem spoke to me but I find myself extremely drawn to those lines there.

I like the way you have structured this poem, with good rhymes. And the saying goes .. red sky at night, shepherds delight!

Make sense why you won, this is a beautiful peace of uplifting literature. Well done. It has a beautiful and natural flow to it, the context flowing beautifully through dark and light subjects. Inspired!

Well it is beautiful!
Good work! Thought provoking. The hopeful tone at the end is beautiful. This poem made me think about life's ups and downs and how we seem to starve for the positive and refuse to ingest the negative.
