Should've stayed asleep

Should've stayed asleep

A Poem by Joe Palmer
"

There's always tomorrow

"
Should've stayed asleep

Sometimes it's hard to find structure
In the unrelenting chaos of life.
You've got to surface for air,
But these moments are rare,
A brief bit of respite would be nice.

Often it's hard to find reason
In this frantic yet mundane routine.
But you vehemently deny,
To just lay down and die,
As surely the better times have yet to be seen?

Lately you've succumbed to the pressure
Comforts breached and mind overwrought.
Tired and obsolete,
Just commit to defeat,
Or recede to the dark of your thoughts.

No-one ever said this was easy
Or suggested the hurdles of life were not steep.
But do not despair,
If you're not already there,
You probably should just stay asleep.

Often it's hard to find reason

In this frantic yet mundane routine.

A brilliant ode to the regular and habitual routine of life. I think sometimes everyone wakes with this questioning of 'when does it get better?' I love the word choice as well, very relatable. I empathize with you my friend. A good, solid piece. xx.

Wow. Them words are so true. I love that flow of the rhythm, it's awesome! I wish I could only sleep instead of walking into the problems that creep. Job well done, it's wonderful.

Lovely poetry. But you are young, you have all your life before you to leap over those steep 'hurdles of life'!

I love this! I felt so much hope yet despair. Almost as if one should succumb to all their grief and pain in this life, but yet a glimmer of hope and promise of a new day. Beautifully written. Thank you for sharing

Merci beacoup! x
Those somber days make me feel like crawling back to bed... to stay in dreamland until another day comes...
Sometimes we need to give in to the pull and just indulge in the sea of comfort.

A Lovely flow of words here... Nicely penned, Joe.~xoxo~:)
