Till Now and Forever

Till Now and Forever

A Story by Josheph L. Dewson
"

Take what you love at that moment and it will stay in your heart forever.

"
It was a cold night, the tips of our fingers going numb and white and our breath was like cigarette smoke. I had always pushed him aside, I didn't want him to end up being disappointed or discouraged but it was so cold that night and the wind howled in our face in the late night empty streets, I let him hold me. We had been running. We planned on running for a long time now. Everything just got too much, it had caused me to make stupid decisions in my life and yet he, just he smiled, laughed and said "things always get better". Every time, even though he had hit rock bottom one or twice or three...
He had a different face on him tonight and it wasn't from the lighting of the street light that was to the left of us. Usually he'd stare at me with his turquoise eyes but now they had looked dark and worn, maybe he was just tired.
For the first time I let him hold me. My head against his chest and his warm hands wrapped, according to his heart I thought he would be more excited but it just kept the same dull constant beat.
He stares out at the water, he was as still as the water itself. I couldn't fathom what was going on in his head. Did he just want to enjoy this moment in serenity. I couldn't figure it out because I had never seen him like this before. Just so empty.
At that moment I just wanted him to love me, I wanted him. So I held his hand and with relief he responded slowly holding mine back.
"I'm sorry for taking you in on this"
Nothing came from his mouth.
"Hey, what's up, you tired?"
He finally turned to me with his face unturned and eyes so cold. What amazed me was that he looked so manly in that moment. Only a little while ago he seemed like such a joke and himself a joker but now his vibe had changed and he was no longer vibrant.
For the first time I let him hold me, for the first time he told me, "I don't want to run anymore"
This struck me two ways, one was its not as bad as he means or it was the uttermost worst moment in my life.
"What?" I whispered in my cold breath.
"I called the-"
No. No. He couldn't why. Please don't say it but he did and I couldn't hold myself back.
"No! Don't!"
I was yelling and screaming, begging, carrying on, hoping he hadn't but he said it.
"I made a black deal with the commission, you're going to get a house and basic facility's you need... For my life"
"No! F**k no! F**k you cancel it! Stop it"
"Im sorry"
I just gave into him I cried my heart out and he held me. He held me and I hd never felt so close to home and all I did was scream into his stomach.
"It's real shame you know, you looked so beautiful tonight" he gave one of them never ending smiles that had picked me up so many times and he said,
"Till now and forever, things always get better".

I really liked this story! I wish it would've been longer but sometimes it's cool to let the reader make up their own story about how they got to that point and what happens next. if you ever decide to make it longer or dd to it, please send me read request! I would love to read it!
