Insomnia

Insomnia

A Poem by Joseph

Sleep fills me with darkness

Sleep takes away the light in my life

The darkness haunts me with the unthinkable

I'm plagued with nightmares of my life

Sleep makes my heart as black as night

Sleep is an unescapable realm of reminiscing

Being awake is my path to the light

Occupying myself to protect me from my thoughts.

I am the nightmare I dream of

My memories are the monsters in my bed

Sleep puts my happiness in abeyance

The dreams don't come, just my thoughts

The dark of the night makes me head ache.

The dark of the night reduces me to a heart of black

I become my own monster under my bed

I become my own darkness
