Love at First SightA Story by Jordan RayFor the past several months, I've been learning a lot about the psychology of love. At first, I was only researching this subject for a project in my psychology class, but even though it's been long since I turned in my project (which I got an A+ on), I'm still interested in learning more about it. The psychology of love is incredibly fascinating, so I just thought I'd share a little information on it for you all. If it turns out that more people want to hear more about the subject, then I will write a second piece. But, for this piece, I will be explaining:
Love at First Sight
Do you believe in love at first sight? Well, you should, because it does exist. But maybe I should explain what love is, first? Well, love is simply an emotion that takes over when we have strong feelings for someone else. And usually, to be in love with another person, they have to be attractive somehow to you. According to a psychologist named M.Farouk Radwan, you only experience love at first sight with someone that has everything you'd want in a woman or man when it comes to appearance. He states: "The unconscious criteria is simply a list of traits that should be found in a person before we can fall in love with them.." This basically means that you have a list of traits in your mind as to what you like best when it comes to appearance. So if you like long brown hair, green eyes, and dark skin, and you see a woman with long brown hair, green eyes, and dark skin, then there's a good chance that it could be love at first sight! But if the woman has blonde hair, then you have less of a chance of falling in love at first sight, even if she is absolutely gorgeous simply because there's something about her that doesn't match your unconscious criteria. You are able to make such quick choices in a matter of seconds mostly because of the prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is the front part of your brain that is involved in emotion. It helps you to make rash decisions about love, and this often makes the relationship end badly for some because they barely know who the person is or what they're like. So if you see the man or woman of your dreams, you could fall in love that split second you eyes meet. © 2013 Jordan Ray |
