Island of the Heart

Island of the Heart

A Poem by Jonathan CuzBubbawicz
"

Walking alone on a island full of people you know

"
Island of the Heart

In a sea of laughter, I drift, alone,
Echoes of friendship like whispers on stone.
Familiar faces, yet shadows they cast,
In a world full of contacts, I’m tethered and fast.

I stand on this island, a stranger, unseen,
Where trust was a garden, now choked with the green
Of doubts that entwine me like vines in the night,
They whisper of love, but I tremble in fright.

Oh, to seek death on the waves of despair,
Yet each breath a tether, I cling to the air.
For fear feels like waves that crash like a storm,
Wounded by longing for something once warm.

I crave the embrace, a haven defined,
Yet walls of my heart are all tightly aligned.
What if I shatter, the pieces too sharp,
To love is to open, to let in the dark.

So I hide in the shadows, a ghost of my soul,
Draped in the fabric of emptiness whole.
They don’t see the colors I bury within,
For I fear that to show them means letting them in.

But somewhere, a flicker, a light in the dark,
Sparks hope, subtle whispers, perhaps there's a spark.
Though lost in the tangle of trust and of pain,
I rise from the ashes, though weary, again.

For the island I stand on may long to embrace,
A heart that is fragile, yet seeks its own place.
Perhaps love will find me, a kindness, a thread,
To weave through the silence, to dance with the dread.

And maybe, just maybe, through shadows I’ve cast,
I’ll find my way back to the love that will last.
No more alone on this island of guise,
But a journey to self, where the truest heart lies.

Through songs I find solace, lost in their spell,
My misery halted by the sirens, while they take to hell.
A fisherman's tall tale, of mermaids seductive mating call,
To enchant and entice the weak minded sailors to fall.

No true love exists in this world, except to the blind,
Those seeking something more, thus losing their mind.
When you are lost in a world, but don't want to be found,
Trying your best to not drown, with your feet on ground.

i really enjoyed it. the rhymes were very moving. just cheking, is the last line a typo: "Trying your best to not drown[ed], with your feet on ground." ?
but i really liked it overall, and the themes really resonated. that there's a great need for us to do some soul searching, but in that search we risk losing ourselves to fantasies.
"To love is to open, to let in the dark." this line is great, maybe my favorite. i didn't understand what it meant at first, and it made me pause and think. i'm too nervous to share my interpretation, in case i got it completely wrong, but i will say that making the reader think is a sign of good poetry.
very strong writing, i hope to see more of your work.
