Open Your Eyes

Open Your Eyes

A Poem by Jonny The Savage

We march on blindly; makeshift mercenaries, one and all. These severed optics, we stare at them like salvation; the abomination before the fall. Breathe in, breathe out; recoil. This nagging doubt consumes us like crafting hats from tin foil. We speak in lies, until our demise; the goal has always been to put out your eyes. To numb the misery that others feel, to be a miser over apathy - to say their suffering is not real! These words, you'll recall, when you realize you should have stalled. Could have given empathy one last try before it died, should have answered that call. Would have learned to love them all: monsters and madmen, lovers and has-beens - large and small. But you've disconnected (blamed it on the service charge). Cannot reconnect it - you've severed the spirit, named yourself a god (and what a fraud!) So now we meet - I struggle to stay on my feet; you're a skipping record, stuck on eternal repeat. I'm a man, nothing more, nothing less. You're forever a fool, kept in a cycle of endless redress. I know that I'm missing pieces to this puzzle we call life. You believe it's one fraction and muzzle the collectors with your proverbial knife.

Love this line
Oh what a world it would be if we all could learn to love more and judge less. So many people refuse to open their eyes

Some choose ignorance in many ways, empathy is on its knees more than ever of late, survival mode or not, I guess...sad really, excellent piece!

Damn. This was powerful to the max. "Would have learned to love them all: monsters and madmen, lovers and has-beens - large and small" I especially love this line. It speaks to me because everyone is so blind to the beauty in others. Everyone has beauty in them and we all close our eyes to it and cast judgment on people who aren't like us. Amazing and VERY strong piece. I heard the strength in your words. Shout this out to the world. THank you for sharing.

I guess when people disconnect with others
and with their own sensitivity
they think they can do anything
and grow into an extremely arrogant person
that can see and appreciate nothing
and no one

it starts by losing sense
the feeling of someone else's suffering
being cold

I like this for it's truth. Nobody has it figured out. I think that's the reason we all have the urge to go on. If we knew what would happen at every moment, why would we want to see it? Life would get boring that way. I enjoyed this, thanks for sharing
