The Ultimate IronyA Poem by Jonny The Savage
The ultimate irony of man's intelligence is that it likely will, ultimately, lead to his own destruction. In terms of evolution, this would imply that higher intelligence is a negative trait. Perhaps it lies in the hives they try to push us into - a tribal species living as insects results in nothing but dehumanization. My mentor, Huxley, goes into great detail of this in 'Brave New World: Revisited'...and it's staggering when you realize the essay is over half a century old. It is somewhat amusing that we feel so superior to the past because of our technology and dead-end beliefs, but most of all, our ignorance and our arrogance.
'And so we beat on, boats against the current', pretending that there never was a past! Blinders on our eyes and fingers in our ears, we insist that putting your head in the sand is not only virtuous but enlightenment, itself! Perhaps a silent weapon for a quiet war: "In view of the law of natural selection it was agreed that a nation or world of people who will not use their intelligence are no better than animals who do not have intelligence. Such people are beasts of burden and steaks on the table by choice and consent." The result of this is animalistic childish beings, for they are no longer human beings by any true metric. The monsters we have become will define this era, we will be seen as fools if the trapped pendulum of humanity ever swings the other way. But alas we are enthralled by the security of slavery and fear the footloose freedoms we once had. What a pity. © 2015 Jonny The SavageAuthor's Note
