Constantly Drifting

Constantly Drifting

A Chapter by John Murray
"

When everything you could ever want...drifts away

"
The water is infinite as it extends out to the distant horizon
It’s the kind of blue only conceivable in a dream
The kind you wish to behold in your meager existence
My body is gently floating on its tranquil surface
My arms are outstretched and my breaths come steady
Serenity
But at the same time, its almost disheartening
For I know that I’m only drifting farther
Farther out to sea
Every passing moment carrying me away from stable ground
The exact stable ground that is necessary for me to survive
I see the shore
The last footprints of the day being washed away
Do I dare fight the current?
Would the act of defiance be considered commendable?
Or obtuse?
The current meets me with a stalemate
There is no progress to be made today
I can only hope for a better tomorrow
And day in which I can feel the sand on my toes again
But until then, I will continue to constantly drift.
