Come Here, Little Brother

Come Here, Little Brother

A Poem by J.R. Asor_28
"

Child abuse can lead to child's death!

"

Come here, little brother

And sit with me

I'll sing you a lullaby

So please, don't cry

Daddy's all alone

Now that mommy's long gone

Let's just stay as quiet as we can be

Or daddy will give us pain and misery

Shhhh! Little brother

Daddy's coming this way

I can hear his heavy boots

Coming up the stairway

With his belt in his hand

And reached for you with the other one

I cried endlessly

As he beat you constantly

I'm sorry, little brother

I sat there watching

As he colored you black and blue

And blood stained your shirt of scooby-doo

He slammed your head against the wall

Your body lay cold on the floor

I tried to run and call for help

But he caught me by the door

He wrapped his belt around my neck

And I tried to fight back

But I took my last breath

And he threw me down, leaving my skull cracked

Let's try not to remember this incident

I'm sure it was just an accident

But this reminds me

He murdered us like he murdered mommy

Come here, little brother

And lay with me

Below the ground, six feet deep

Even though,we all know, this was not meant to be

This was good John. I like that you chose a topic you are concerned about and presented it in a victim's perspective fashion; really well done. It was chilling and gruesome but the same can be said for the atrocities visited upon some children by their own parents; the people who are supposed to protect, love and care for them. Just as important I think is a less drastic; yet constant form of child abuse that goes unnoticed. It doesn't leave bruises or welts or fractures...at least none the eye can readily detect. There is physical abuse and there is also mental and emotional abuse. I've heard parents tell their kids they were "good for nothing" "useless" "wish you'd never been born" curse them, yell at them and harass them for no good reason all the while claiming it was for "their own good"...these people don't deserve children and what's worse is the cycle it unwaveringly begins...they grow up to be bullies to their kids or criminals or worse. A word can hurt as much as a slap in the face and last a lot longer. Being a good parent, showing love, respect, trust and understanding; offering help encouragement and your time can mean as much to society as a whole as it does the individual child. Because the way the child goes is the way the future goes. Just my thoughts. Loved your piece. Keep writing my friend.

Wow, this is a gruesome piece. The words are great, but it looks like you attempted a rhyme pattern but it fades away. Also, on line seven, it's spelled "quite" instead of "quiet". I would edit this piece, but it is a very good start.

Reading this breaks my heart but you've crafted your words so well. You've managed to capture raw emotion with such a taboo topic. Well done!
