The Tears of the Dragons.

The Tears of the Dragons.

A Poem by John Phoenix Hutchinson.
"

A tale of Dragons. A tale of Duality. Two poems for the price of one!

"

The Tears of the Dragons.

Held in the heart of man's woven legends lies,

the magical manifestation of the elemental beast.

The grand vision of flame in flight, sets the mind to

the all encompassing wonder of a Dragon on the wing.

Immortality the foundation of their constellation destiny,

the path forged in a ferocious fire, kindled in tempest's heart.

The unconquerable depths of the emerald windows to their soul,

speak of a hermetical wisdom, a omnipotent warrior prophet.

Preaching the golden way through conflagration's eternal blaze.

Devastation, ruination, the prelude to a rebirth revolution.

A world reborn from cinder dark ashes, the embers charcoal glow,

now fertilized by the Dragons silvered tears, the lost Atlantis grows.

Author's Note

John Phoenix Hutchinson.
Hopefully this poem can be taken two ways. Firstly a legend of Dragons and secondly as a hermetical truth within man........but I will leave that to the reviewers to decide........I wonder which way you read it the first time???

This is amazing! I'll be honest with you - I saw the picture of the dragon and I started squealing. A dragon poem!!!! Wooo!!!!! But then I read it....and I read it again....and I read it a third time because I don't like even numbers. And then I just sat there. Wow. I felt incredibly childish. You're poem is incredibly deep and I think I might've gotten lost in the sea of the "inner truth of mankind". If you happen to have a rowboat, or even a rubber ducky inner tube..... Where was I? Um....in a roundabout and ridiculous fashion, I'm trying to say good write! I could've just said that outright, but then you wouldn't have gone down to your basement and dug up that inner tube for me. It just struck me how utterly stupid this whole review sounds. I'm sorry. I'll shut up now.

(Pssst!!! It's me again!!! Just wanted to reiterate that I loved, loved, loved, loved, really loved, and totally enjoyed loving your poem :D K, that's it)

With the dual message already in mind, I was able to envision both scenarios as I read it. If I weren't aware of that duality beforehand - and in light of my affinity for dragons - my first instinct would likely have been to see it as an ode to them, with the "human" element coming to me after a few readings. Humans have a tendency to distrust what logic can't explain, and the dragons - hurt and frustrated by being misunderstood - take those feelings out on humanity's material existence but are unable to suppress the stubbornness of the human race, borne from their insistence on being the dominant race on the planet, if not the entire known universe. Because the metaphor is such a sophisticated one, I feel like there are many elements I'm simply not catching on to, but in any event, this is a very thought-provoking piece that would have lent itself to a great deal of contemplation and admiration, even were there no background info to start with.

Exactly! They're just... hiding...waiting...watching...ever patient...
No matter what direction you take it, the dragon is a symbol in many cultures for me it represents strength and challenge to confront my fears.
Great job, well done.

Nice one "MM"
I am rendered speechless as a matter of fact. I wasn't sure about the meaning until I read your author's note, but even then my slow brain can still entertain fantasies of something completely different. I know I am weird, but regardless I found this poem detailed to a divine point. I actually am not sure how to even proceed with this comment but I am started to ramble. ^^*

I like your idea that, like mankind, dragons could be capable of creation as well as destruction.

You gave it away to me with the note so I was looking for two meanings. :) Well done my friend. The dragon is a powerful image representing that which can be terrible and beautiful in humankind. :)

Me too
My first reaction was legend of Dragons.. Had to be !
I sometimes envy you sir, for being able to write magical, and mystical writings... in which category I've completely failed so far !!!

But coming back to the poem, the last two lines were SIMPLY EPIC !!!
Brings back memories of your poem Phoenix from the flames and the touch of imagery of Atlanta just blew this piece of writing out of proportions !!!
Amazing !
