spider

spider

A Poem by John Cuttito

h

there is a dreamcatcher above this bed

webs snaring prophets slings.

spiders crawling on the skin of night

disturbance of slumber,

leaving angry red marks spread across the dawn.

Beneath the cover of moon

the cat gets the mouse

and leaves it on the dining-room table

spilled guts on the good china.

shake the room.

feathers of the catcher shatter

letting the bad dreams loose.

oracle speaks in her long dead tongue

without ears to hear it,

the dead wander through houses

leaving windows open, coughing up cobwebs.

unable to decipher past lovers breaking bread upon the same table.

fishbowl eyes watching as rust colored spiders crawl upon the

glass making  cracks where their legs touch the surface.

the bowl breaks, the wheel cracks in relinquishment of eternity

ghosts in the glass, violet in the air, the dream shifts, labyrinth feet make restless

circles, worn soles, tired heads await the time without a watch,  trees are

guardians of all the secrets in the world, roots hold strong the ties that bind to

 neon lights.
