Self Image

Self Image

A Poem by John Anderson

What do you see when you look in the mirror
Is it what you expected to see
Is it worse than you imagined or better
Do you like the image that is portrayed
Or could you change what you see or feel
Do you feel that the image you look at reflects how you feel
Or do you find it easily to look away from the reflection
Do you find yourself ugly to look at
Or is the ugliness inside
Do we always self analyze ourselves in mirrors
Certainly not in public in public we preen
We correct ourselves but not the real you
We correct the outer shell which the world sees
Not the real us we save that till we are alone
In the bathroom or bedroom at home
Then again you may feel fine about who you see
You may actually like the person that you see and that is rare
Rare, but how it should be.
I hope when you see yourself in the mirror
You like what you see. As for me...well I wrote this!
