Favourite Season

Favourite Season

A Poem by John Anderson

I get to walk on jig-saw puzzles
in my favourite season.

Always feet-ward my eyes
dart from piece to piece --
Dream carpets and puzzles turning
brown, pumpkin, cranberry, gold
coin collections rusted,
Chinese fans and willow tears
silverfish, almond husks,
chestnut leathers,
open palms tan,
Japanese lacquer paints,
cantaloupe crescents
pear skins and flesh
cedar slivers,
Miro designs,
crystallized citrus peels:
grapefruit, orange, lemon --

In my favourite season
the sun comes from the ground.

The first two lines don't flow as well as the rest of the poem. That aside...This was quite brilliant! I loved the vivid picture you painted for my imagination to wander to. Each line added another detail to a story of a distant land in my mind. The seasonal reference whisked me away. The last two lines finished the poem with tremendous impact. Thank you for sharing.
