Foreplay Starts With The Eyes

Foreplay Starts With The Eyes

A Poem by John Anderson

Foreplay starts with the eyes
glancing off each other
touching sparks, raising the ante
long before the words can place the bet.

It doesn't matter if they're brown
or blue or green, if your eyes can meet mine
across the room, hook me in and draw me closer
you're already halfway there

to where your words can stroke
my innuendo while my perfect metaphor
whispers past your ear to tickle the place
where fantasy starts.

We can wrap each other up with
feather duster words, tease
substance from ideas and
let me wrap throbbing maypole with a
magic meld of silver-ribboned words

but when we know that we have reached
inside the other, dipped our fingers
in the well of our intentions
and the exchange of bodily fluids
is just another metaphor for
the meeting of our minds.

Foreplay ends with the eyes
when yours meet mine and mine
pull you in to where the words
are singing f**k me bang me

take me
