Goodbye America

Goodbye America

A Poem by John Anderson

Know this, we are everywhere and encompass everybody
Wherever there is a parent that has lost a child
Wherever there is a child who has lost a parent
Wherever there is a person that to this day

mourns the loss of their lover
We are Socialist, Capitalist, Anarchist, Moderates,

Communist and Nihilistic
We are Kantian, Utilitarian, Stoic, Hedonistic,

Aristotelians, and Existentialist
We are Atheist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim,

Jane, Mormon, and Agnostic
We have been around since the dawn of society

and will be there until your atomic holocaust comes
Our beliefs are simple, if we are to survive

then we must act accordingly to our own ethics and morals
At the top of these is the simple idea that

we don’t want your power hungry,

money grabbing, imperialistic ways.
We will not take part in your slaughter
This time, History is on our side, but we

will not bury you, we will simply

only have to let you bury yourselves.

The strength of this poem resonates from the subtlety in the writing. When talking about religion in the U.S., Christianity is second after atheism, capitalist falls after socialist, and "history" is capitalized in the same way that "He" is capitalized in the bible, implying that we follow our history the way most people follow God. Well done.

The powers that be, know how to manipulate. It is for us to wake up and not be manipulated. A very powerful write.

"will not bury you, we will simply
only have to let you bury yourselves."
I don't think we are done yet. I lived through the President Carter years. Was worst than today. We need to freeze the money. Except for USA problems. A bankrupt country need to balance their books. A powerful poem. Open the door to a conversation with no easy answer. My dear Grandparent survived the depression. We will over come. We need to teach our children. Education is the key. Don't accept less from the leaders. We need results.

The poem has a sanctity throughout that gives the piece its weight and wisdom.

Ahh, I don't like to stick my paws in these types of writes, enflaming passions and getting my American cronies all riled up. The poem itself is clear and concise in its message, and well-written, and as for the opinions, I won't comment.

I always believed in the US of Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. Hope some real leader comes and saves this great nation.
