Polaris or Truth as Once We Knew It

Polaris or Truth as Once We Knew It

A Poem by Johannes Nelson

Where are you sweet Polaris,
Who of late so constant turned
With all my nights?
Have I your grace not earned
And worthy homage paid
To all your sister lights?
I set one weary,  one hopeful eye
Upon the planet’s gentle edge,
Yet even in a moonless sky,
You do not uphold your pledge
To guide, bewildered, this exhausted
Nomad home.
Have I too far from your realm gone?
Have you too long for wayward footsteps burned?
Remember when we constant turned
Together in retreating light.
Remember when we secrets learned
That tore the day from womb of night.
