FindersA Poem by JohanneBlackA companion to Losers
Finders
We've found genies in lamps. We've found stories divine. We've found ourselves hungover from wine. All we've avoided was seeing the woods through the pine... We've found novelty. We've found light. We've found wondrous things in the night. All we've avoided was our fright... We've found our footing. We've found stars above. We've found ourselves some happiness in sweet, sweet love. All we've avoided was getting a shove... We've found laughter. We've found the brave. We've found ways to misbehave. All we've avoided so far is the grave... We've found daddy's liquor. We've found mother's booze. We've found superior ways in which to lose. All we've avoided some nights was the blues... We've found nightmares. We've found dreams. We've found ourselves intolerant of screams. All we've avoided was compassion, it seems... We've found Gods. We've found Devils. We've found ourselves spiritually disheveled. All we've avoided was the truth of the periled... We've found spiders. We've found snakes. We've found our leaders to be damn fakes. All we've avoided some nights was the shakes... We've found unspeakable travesties. We've found guts galore. We've found in our pockets the spoils of war. All we've avoided was keeping the score... And Sanity... © 2016 JohanneBlack |
