What a heart wrenching story you have told with your words! A soldier receives a letter, drops it in the snow, and subsequently dies...wishing he had that letter to hold. Poignant and written with incredible imagery. Kudos to you. Lydi**
Your words conjur up amazingly strong pictures in my mind, maybe the thought of pure white snow being trampled by heavy boots, and the meaning of the home comfort and love being lost in the noise and cruelty of war. Your, ' A soldier was lying on a field ~ Turning the snow red.. is such a strong couplet.. so very sad, so very memorable. This is a wonderful piece of writing, start to end.
Very moving, powerful, and emotional piece hun.
Letters from loved ones would mean allot when your in that position I can imagine.
These men are brave and strong and kind hearted risking there life for there country. It truly is inspiring.
Another beautiful write hun.
I enjoyed the read well done :)
"A soldier was lying on a field
Turning the snow red
Letting it come, the fear he concealed
Wondering what it´d feel like to be dead
Repeating known words over again
If only he had that letter then"
This stanza got me, really. Emotional write of sorrow and regrets. Well done!
Your niche seems to be sad poetry, Johanna... or maybe, more accurately, poetry of regret. WWII was a time were regret could be found aplenty, too. Deathly sad.
The second piece is my favorite, though it's depressing: despite reading what can be assumed to be a message from home, the struggles of wartime are overpowering his relief, his hopes "trampled" and his exhaustion sinking in.
Savagely written, giving no filter to soften the pain... another thoughtful and illustrative composition from Johanna Magdalena :)
