HomeA Poem by Johanna"He dried the tears in his eye, straightened his tie.."He dried the tears in his eye Straightened his tie Looked himself in the mirror, looked away Took out his phone and pressed her number again He just needed to hear her say That she missed him, that she loved him Even though he knew she did But without her the days were all grim Surrounded by grey suits and ties Trying to get her a better life When the only thing he did Was miss his wife He stood in front of them Ready to speak Trying to look confident When he felt so weak Trying to pretend That the words came from his heart The ones he jotted down on paper last night in the dark When all his heart was filled with was his love for her All their faces became a blur Trying to breathe inside a room with judgment And too much cologne Before the applause settled He was on his way home
