World War II

World War II

A Poem by Johanna
"

I´ve been reading a book about WWII, and this poem swept into my head. What I was reading, in my words.

"

Words were many

But truthfulness was rare

Bombs falling down

Along with every tear

Their eyes wide open

As he crossed the line

Closed them to avoid

Repeat of horrors in time

Words were many

And at last they did declare

War, war, war

Still they pretended

The war wasn´t there

The dust settled on ruins

As hope dug it´s own grave

The war had started

Every human forced to be brave

Soldier and wife parted

Everything love gained

Hate gave away

No one heard crying voices

Just a blazing gun

Out of choices

What really could be won?

Men falling every hour

Greater than love

Was his love for power

The world forced to change

Alongside it´s people

New were the rules of war

What used to be true

Wasn´t true anymore

Life was a fight

As blood was dripping from the earth

Everyone thought they were right

Everyone got hurt

Every word carefully chosen

Everyone´s heart frozen

Troops ordered to descend

While what they all wanted

Was for the war to end

As freedom was taken

New hope was found

Single white flower

Rising from the ground

Years passed slowly

Lengthened by sorrow

All that had been

A dream

Seemed so long ago

Sky full of clouds

Future so dim

No matter what happened

Good had to win

Through each land

Led by God´s hand

The Allies, Edelweiss

Opening each gate

Sadly, sometimes

They got there to late

Scars on each side

Wounds beyond repair

Still the sky was now blue

No more sirens in the air

But even if love in the end won

Nothing could be undone

That´s what the elderly woman

Told her son

The world was on track again

But it didn´t mean anything

It could never fill the seat were he sat

Her soldier, who never came back

Capturing the heart of war (especially one you have not experienced) is a tall order. I feel as if you have done it here. I can feel the history unfolding as I read. Very well written. Full of emotion and truth.

Man will never learn....his aspirations are selfish, individually and collectively. Ultimately he will kill to achieve them, rather than back down. Very affecting, Johanna. P.

I agree.. Thanks Pete :)
Oh wow this was truly astounding, beautiful and sad. The war left alot of families with holes in their hearts, I can't imagine how it would feel to lose someone and to never see them again, never getting to tell them everything you wish you had. You can never say I love you enough, but that's a cross we must bare. Great job on this

Me neither.. yeah.. your right. Thankyou! :)
One thing I listen to all the time is War by Frankie goes to Hollywood. War is absolutely good for nothing. I think we should always remember everything that has been sacrificed during war. I had actually posted a war poem today as well, and am working on a poem about the shell shocked from ww1. Great poem :)
