a tour of ny

a tour of ny

A Poem by joeysick
"

based on my personal experiences. don't get offended

"

welcome to ny

where your dreams are sure to die

it’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s your taxes flying high

on the street, you can’t beat

“world famous coffee”

litter and new york

name a better love story

speaking of stories, we got plenty of those

on the buildings, just look up

man, do you see how tall they go?

pedestrians asking for spare change,

they’re everywhere, it ain’t a tad bit strange

cops here are devoted

not to you, to fulfilling their quota

they’ll laugh at you and leave a ticket on your toyota

we all know the cops should keep their hands off the soda

the crowds of homeless people are lots of joy

they’re professional, too professional to ever be employed

everyone’s addicted to crack, loud noises that is

fireworks or gunshots? no one’s really sure

that’s new york in a pothole, hope you enjoyed my brief tour

I have visited NY and I feel like "litter and new york" was a fitting line. It's a city. What can I say. It's everything and it's nothing. I think your thought patterns felt sort of chaotic which matched the subject. Good work. :)

Joey, this is great, and I just had to laugh.
You really nailed the Big Apple in word and deed in your poem. I'm a Bronx girl so I appreciate the language, the imagery, the rhythm and rhyme of this. "That's New York in a pothole"-Excellent!
