A Poem by Joey Martinez

You know the outcome, the score has been settled so why continue to pedal towards the finish line? Are you hoping you’ll magically change the course of what’s been set in stone? Do you truly believe or is it just that you’re scared to be alone?
You’ve dealt the final blow, the credits are rolling it’s the end of the show.
So why continue to try? I’m curious to know why...
The resilience is flattering but it can be smothering.
It’s hard to keep your distance when Cupid is hovering.
You’ve been struck with an arrow, although it appears to be far too late here you are trying to change fate.
We’re all due for a change but holding onto the past can make a man deranged.
It’s hard to let go and let things flow when you’re trapped in regret.
It’s hard to move forward when you keep trying to retrace past steps.
I guess this is what love does to a man with no solid plan.
You already had your chance and you took it for granted.
The seeds of your mistakes have been planted and it’s hard to change the root of it all.
At least you’re feeling the pain instead of drowning yourself in whiskey rain.
If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen simple as that.
