Motel blues

Motel blues

A Poem by Joey Martinez

You got your motel money but you have penthouse dreams
A bed made for a sorrowful fool with roaches coming out the seams
Purchased a woman down the alley to occupy wasted time
A bottle of whiskey to make the loving more frisky and a nice line of snow
The curtains have been closed for years but you’re too high to stop the show
A man once influential
Has become a boy with no credentials other than wasted potential

You’ve got the motel blues
Tired of chasing dreams keep on hitting snooze
A heart that refuses to lose with a liver full of booze

Wake up! The sun shines bright despite the fact you were made for the night
Time ceases to exist when everyday is filled with an alcoholic kiss and a powdery sniff
Your mind is maze with broken walls
No exit in sight, you have to stall
And you’ve been stalling for years
So much self inflicted pain, you can’t afford tears

You’ve got the motel blues
You either rich or poor
You either win or lose
It’s hard to judge a boy without shoes
It’s hard to be anyone but you
