Mirror

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Mirror mirror on the wall
You remind us we exist in a world that many appall
You remind us that We’re alive in a realm that’s overwhelmingly abysmal
But it’s an honor to be apart of history
There’s no routine, the next day is all a mystery
It’s an honor to feel pain, you can’t enjoy the sun without a little rain
And there are times where we wonder if our existence has been compromised
But once we see our own reflection the truth begins to cover the complexion of our self driven lies
We are alive
We can’t escape the mirrors and it haunts us humans
It frightens us to know we exist because we can’t resist that subtle gaze of the truth
Many people are frightened to see who their soul has taken shelter in
Walking past any glass of reflection to avoid seeing the scars of their sins
The youth in us all begin to reminisce of a time where pain was healed with a mothers kiss
And now that kiss has turned into a swig of whiskey and a puff of smoke
Filling ourselves with false hope
But it’s a blessing to be alive
Deal with the pain
Speak the truth
Learn from the lies
