Resident

Resident

A Poem by Joey Martinez

So many visitors come into our lives and only a select few become a resident
We grow accustomed to their elegance and become dependent
Independence is hard to obtain in a world that drains our hope and dreams
Nightmares come out to play while our aspirations hide in the seams
So we look for a significant other to help us through these troubled times
But now it has become a crime to show weakness, to show pain
Sunny skies can only cover up so much rain
We’re only human so why is It inhuman to show our vulnerability to the residents we want to stay in our lives?
Some will stay and provide the nourishment while others will give a kiss goodbye and rid the memories
Humans are the weakest creatures on earth and it’s okay to show it
Just don’t lose your life to it
And don’t give up on your fellow residents who decided to invest in your world
Never leave them
Never
