Fly high

Fly high

A Poem by Joey Martinez

The earth remains in its routine orbit while you continue to provide me with euphoric emotions.
I was stuck in a horrid place but you put me in motion to escape.
What I didn’t know was that you were leading me to my unwanted fate.
Some call it heartbreak, some call it a mistake.
I don’t know what to call it just yet.
You saved me from myself but you introduced me to death.
But no matter how painful it was to grow so close and depart so far.
You took me the night sky and introduced me to the stars without a single drug.
I was never sober when we were together. A natural second hand high had me light as a feather.
However, things have changed and the more I keep my range, the more deranged I begin to feel.
I purposely throw away the key to my heart but you somehow broke the seal.
The same goes for my mind.
Dark thoughts began to see a shining light that was casted by your smile.
The trial of love has reached a verdict.
The pain you put me through was worth it.
I saw the world in your eyes and that’s somethig not many can witness.
The memories of our time continue to save me with its swiftness.
Euphoria continues to last within my soul.
No matter how you are I continue to hold.
I continue to fly and never fold.
