A Poem by Joey Martinez

Happiness was a magnet to our souls during our times as children.
Here we are as adults trying to stick to something to keep us afloat.
What made us loose that connection?
Maybe it’s the money, or perhaps the wisdom we obtained from flooding our brains with the knowledge of the world.
All was fun and games but now it’s a whirlwind of war and poverty.
How can one be happy when we’re all being used and abused by the novelties of those with higher power?
Time keeps getting quicker by the hour and with each tick of the clock, I wish I can make it stop.
Pack my bags and head back to the past.
Where the innocent child I was could have a blast once again.
Time was once my friend but now it’s my foe.
I remember when I thought every person I encountered was a dove but now I realized they’re mostly crows.
Now I work for the dollar just to loosen the collar known as stress.
I didn’t realize how blessed my childhood was.
But now I came to the conclusion.
Wanting to grow up was nothing but a delusional thought.
Now I can’t escape, I’ve been caught.
