Divide

Divide

A Poem by Joey Martinez

They say history tends to repeat itself.
The book of segregation is being taken off the shelf for more pages.
Children of all ages are being taken away from their parents who aim to inherit a new beginning.
God bless America is nothing but a lie when our leaders are doing nothing but sinning.
This land was taken, not found.
We are all immigrants unless you come from Native American ground.
I can't fathom how one with a soul can support the events that are beginning to unfold.
Children need their families to survive but instead of welcoming those who have the courage to oppose where they once resided, we continue to deny and divide.
Our voices are being heard and policies are being overturned.
However, the damage has been done.
Families are suffering, children are on the run.
Avoiding the hands of those with twisted demands.
When will we come to understand that we are all the human race?
Humanity is moving backwards while evil keeps pace.
