No escape

No escape

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Refugees seeking refuge in the United States
Seen as a heavenly escape from the Devils gate that has been opened by the hate from those who want nothing but to obliterate the innocent who don't follow their false faith
The refugees of the middle east hoping to obtain peace are unaware that it's not within reach once their feet touch the land of the so called free
Leaving the war of religion to reside in the war of race that continues to grow at a rapid pace
Judging those who pray on their knees by people who give thanks to the same God but by putting the crease of their hands together
We're all walking on the same tightrope of peace but racism can't help but tether the innocent with its words of blether
23 years of life on earth and I still can't understand why we can't come together
So many ways of communication, through TVs, radio, and Internet but we still can't become a nation under God
But we still fish for peace but we can never reel it in due to the fragile rod
Still distributing unwanting glares and stares to those who wear hijabs to cover their hair
It just ain't fair
It just isn't right
It angers me to know the middle east can't escape any fight
