20/20 Vision

20/20 Vision

A Poem by Joey Martinez

The doctor said I was blessed with 20/20 vision.
But I couldn't depict reality and it's crooked collisions.
I couldn't see through the mask of lies that my loved ones wore to disguise the demise.
Being told to keep my head up high while theirs are pointed to the ground.
I'm sorry I believed the fabricated smiles that were just different forms of frowns.
I learned not to believe everything my eyes perceived.
I learned to ask questions and stay when people say it's okay to leave.
I am no longer a man who's going to be deceived.
I am going to be a man who will help you breath.
I'm no mastermind but I've started to realize how harsh reality can be.
Perhaps I was put on this earth to help those in need.
I just want to change into a better man.
Many need help and I want to meet the demand.
United we fall and united we stand.
