A Poem by Joey Martinez

She's filled to the brim with stress and worry
Frantically pacing at work, moments away from attempting to scurry out the doors
Aching to yell how she cant take it anymore
This internship has her in a sunken ship of regret
Thinking back to when she was a little girl wanting to grow up unaware of adulthoods responsibilities and debt
Busting her a*s for an unpleasant check that barely let's her breathe
Clocking out of work just to go home and get ready to leave once again
That second job was needed ever since the landlord raised the rent
All this time spent at work has her simple little mind going berserk
No significant other to help cope with her stress
So she goes down the block and buys some weed to put these nerves to rest
She's hanging on by a thread
But a smile is curved while her eyes lay low and red
Enjoying her smoke while getting ready to cope with her unpleasant boss and joke of a second job
And off she goes waiting for the bus to arrive
Another adult with a child's heart wishing childhood never died
