Alone

Alone

A Poem by Joey Martinez

The game of love is too difficult for me
I yearn to give it another run but I decide to flee
The pain exceeds the pleasure
But I treasure every measure of time in which we spent together
She touched my heart but crushed it as well
I assumed I was gonna walk into love but I tripped and fell
You came from behind and pushed me in
I felt as if I was in heaven even when we committed acts of sin
And you aren't to blame it is I who is at fault
I created this wound but then you came and threw the salt
Adding insult to injury
Playing a man who resembles nothing but chivalry
But as I said I am to blame
Believing things were gonna change
Fooled into believing life was throwing me a bone
I should have known
I am meant to be alone

Goodness, I felt that. The flow was descent, but what impressed me was the symbolism and metaphors. The description of every emotion is flawless, and I actually caught my eyes watering a little at the end. As tragic as the story is, it's written beautifully. I applaud that.

Only thing I might have changed is when it says "I felt as if I was in heaven even when we committed acts of sin " I would have split it after the word heaven and had the rest continue below. That's just me though. Otherwise this was amazing.
