Road to success

Road to success

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Reality isn't her cup of tea.
She prefers a neat shot of catastrophe.
The world around her continues to spin while she stands still wallowing in sin.
Her hunger for success is nothing compared to her appetite of destruction.
The path of righteousness was under construction.
But instead of taking a different course she turned back to the source of her dilemma.
Her addictive personality is out for vendetta.
She wants to change but the demons inside rearrange her perception.
Which leads back to her alcoholic inception.
Above the legal limit to drive on the road to success.
Parked in the shoulder lane along with the others who are in distress.
Waiting for help to arrive but was told she wouldn't receive help until she tried.
It's bad enough she was driving in reverse but now she's become stuck in a worse position.
No hope, no ambition.
The key turns but there's no ignition.
She has the option to walk but will it be forward or back?
Or worst of all, will she go off track?
