Paterson Kid

Paterson Kid

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Just a kid from Paterson roaming the streets
Mother got him a new pair of Jordans and proudly wears them on his feet but he knows to be discreet and avoid certain streets or else he'll be robbed or possibly deceased
It's sad to say but that's how it is today, one minute you're here then a few seconds later your mother is shedding tears
Its the Paterson way
And thats how it is every f*****g day
He keeps to himself, avoids the commotion and keeps it in motion
Looking straight ahead eyes at 12 O clock
Scared he'll make eye contact with a man wielding a glock
From time to time he'll switch his vision to six O clock in case a bunch of goons decide to flock
That's how it is in streets of Paterson
That's how it is growing up by Madison
Just a kid trying not to be tragics son
