Trace

Trace

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Travis said to find my balance
It's hard to do when the people around you are high off malice
Im trying to obtain that golden chalice
But like Mario I keep heading down to the wrong palace
And I know I'm not alone
Plenty of young adults are singing the same tone
Many of us are writing poems on our phones
Me, I'm just trying to find my escape instead of getting stoned
So I stand up tall
Because I refuse to fall
I thank God for my friends who would answer my calls
But I'm finding my balance I'm finding my way
I'm writing poetry until night turns into day
I said it before I'm not lost I just don't know what's in store
The future is a scary place
Life is a never ending race
I'm trying to keep pace
I'm trying to avoid being high off my face
I'm trying to find a woman who can bless me with her grace
I wanna leave a mark in this world, I wanna leave a trace

Something I see a lot about is people like to control the future. "The future is a scary place"
It's a really telling line.

I also see the ending line of someone who doesn't want to feel left to the wayside

There is always this push and pull between the future and aspirations. Well done.
