Heroin hero

Heroin hero

A Poem by Joey Martinez

You had her believe you had the cure for her pain
You wrapped around her arm and took control of her viens
Shooting up until she danced with the stars
Flirting with the moon laughing with Mars
Look at her go
What was once a nice girl now lives down below
A rock bottom catastrophe
Who years ago would say doing heroin is blasphemy
Love love love
I guess there's no feeling that ranks above
Deceived to believe the cure was inside the needle
Now you feel guilty because you were the wheedle
You made her into this mindless creature
You witnessed heroin destroy her exquisite features
But there you go, asking if shes ready for another go
Life is moving fast but the heroin makes it slow
Tricking her to "live in the now"
Telling her the world is her show go ahead take a bow
Because once that curtain closes the show comes to an end
I just wish she would have avoided you with needle and picked me with the pen

Such a terrifying read here & the reality of what follows when it comes to becoming an addict. I've known a couple of my friends who passed away from overdoses and it pains me to know that some are so attached to getting a high that nothing & no one else is important like it once used to be. I'll be honest, I tried heroin a few times (I never shot up, but just snorted lines of it), I overdosed the first time & my boyfriend somehow was able to wake me up. I did it a few times more after that, but I stopped simply because the feeling of its withdrawals were horrendous & I couldn't imagine how people can deal with going through that time & time again. It seems like an innocent friend, just a fun time once you test it out, but after too long, it can grasp your soul & drag you into such a Hell that you never would imagine ever being in. This reminds of the poem I wrote awhile ago called "True Addicts", which is also written about heroin addiction & how treacherous it can result in. I'm speechless after reading this...so raw & powerful...wonderful job!!
