Lethal

Lethal

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Depression is lethal
Like heroin inside a needle
It takes over and brings you down
Leaving you in the dark to never be found
You cut yourself deep
And watch yourself bleed
Just to remind yourself you're still alive
Even though you feel dead inside
Voices sing in your head
The chorus screams you're better off dead
And you lie there panicking in bed
Until you lose it all and see red
You start to wonder
When did you fall down under
But you can't remember
Depression is now a fire that was once an ember
And your heart is as cold as December
The society of depression and you're just another member

I really enjoyed the message and voice behind these words! Along with the rhyming, but you speak of an illness so true and deadly. Like a poison. Depression affects a majority of wonderful people and each has gone through their personal share of hell. It's heartbreaking and sad, but they should know that their attitudes and actions affect those around them, even if it doesn't seem like it. There is help and ways to get better, just a matter of if people are willing to open up and also those who are willing to listen.

"Like heroin in a needle"
I found this line odd this is because heroin is a drug, while I can agree that it is harmful I feel that it's link changes the idea of depression, I think of depression as faulty thoughts and a inability to control said thoughts, whereas a addiction to drug makes it seems as if people are "addicted" to everything that surrounds the "use" of depression and therefore putting depression in the context of something that gives people good feelings, and attention ect
